Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 50F, sunny and nice

Comments:
Woke up at 0615 today, intending on running a few different runs today. I got my ass moving and went out for a quick four miles before a planned 7-mile run at 0700with my cousin's wife, who's been getting into running/marathoning this year. However, upon returning to the house, I found that she was still sleeping and was "gonna run at 8". Since I also had plans to run at 0830 in town with my brother BILLY, I bailed for Eveleth and ran solo.

Felt garbagey AGAIN on the early 4, but a bit better on a nice out and back dirt trail run along a snowmobile/ATV trail that ran from the Super 8, paralleling the highway from Eveleth to Gilbert. I ran nearly the whole way into Gilbert before turning back.

I kept it really easy again this morning, in hopes of freshening the legs. I used my breathing as a "governor", breathing in for 4 strides and out for four. It's a lot harder than it seems, but it works the diaphragmatic breathing really well (which is vital for "maximum ventilation").

Got back after that eight miler and woke up BILLY for a little run around town with him. Like yesterday we were two minutes on, one off. He got pretty winded running up the steep Fayal Ave hill toward our old house from 30 years ago, but once we reached the top he recovered pretty good. Though trashed, it was fun to run with him.

Not sure why my legs feel so terrible, but it's beginning to piss me off. It's a very similar feeling to the past several years: that muscular "burnt out" feeling. This time, I'm going to avoid the mistake of trying to "grind through it", which is why I've been keeping it so easy. Tomorrow I'll run easy and short (<8) and supplement with the bike in RF.

FYI: last night was a show by "Teen King and the Princes" at my cousin's bar in Eveleth. Yesterday would've been my dad's 60th birthday and this group was one of my dad's favorite oldies bands. They were pretty awesome, and it was great to see most of my family there and several of my dad's old friends. Per usual, I got to hear some stories about my dad, which is always a highlight up coming up here. It's amazing how much he's still talked about, now 20 years after he died.
