Whitetail Ridge Trails

September 21, 2008 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 70F, getting humid

Comments:
Felt pretty good out of the gate today; must've been the caffeinated Clif this AM. I wanted to do a more aggressive long run today and I got it.

I ran two laps of the Shopko trails. Going easy, these typically take about 35 minutes. My focus today was to go relatively conservative on the first lap and pick it up on the second. Moreover, I'm still horrified with how poorly the hills went at Lowes during the time trial so I focused on running aggressively on all uphills. The first lap was pretty damn fast, at 33 minutes! That surprised me. And despite tiring out in the 2nd half of the 2nd lap, I split that one in 31-flat. Pretty good. If that, indeed, is 5 miles (which I'm sure it's not), then I was rolling about 6:10s that second time around.

I toned it down a bit on the 2-mile run home. It was getting warm and the sun was beginning to heat things up. I split a 6:12 uphill on the way home, so I was going pretty good. Nothing to brag about; stupid, if anything, but I wanted some "strength work" today and this run delivered.

I start working tomorrow: we'll see how that affects any training progression. It hasn't taken much to throw a wrench in the works in 2008...
